On August 23, 2017 NFP Sports Co-Founder, James Thomson presented Montville high school senior, Kristiyana Petrova, with the NFP Sports Top Seller Scholarship from the 2013/2014 school year. The presentation was made at CorePlus Credit Union's headquarters in Norwich, CT.
Petrova earned this award by selling frozen cheesecakes for the Montville High School Girls' Lacrosse team during her freshman year. This statewide achievement is given annually to a student who raised the most money for their team selling fundraising products. Petrova sold 120 cheesecakes during of the team's two week fundraising campaign. From the beginning of the fundraiser, Petrova was dedicated to selling her product. In an interview with The Day, she mentioned “I was so passionate, not about cheesecakes — but selling them”. Her passion was rooted from a young age when she moved to America with her mother at the age of seven. She always set goals and consistently surpassed the limits she set. "Kristiyana's story is inspiring. To know that her performance during one of our campaigns inspired her to set her sights higher and accomplish many other things during her high school career is heartwarming,” said Thomson. “I believe I speak for everyone at NFP Sports when I say that she embodies what being a High Impact Performer is all about. We look forward to seeing her go onto great things in college and beyond”. Since her amazing fundraising performance, Kristyana has worked three part-time jobs, in addition to her studies. She graduated from Montville High School this past June. By becoming the Top Seller for her year, Petrova earned a $1,000 scholarship towards her college career. She is off to study at Babson College this fall, where she looks forward to studying all facets of business. We wish Kristiyana the very best at Babson College and beyond! Keep up the great work!

R & K Spero Company, Inc. own and operate eleven McDonald’s locations along the shoreline and eastern Connecticut, spanning from New Haven to Montville. Their first McDonald’s location was founded in 1980 in Clinton, CT and celebrated its 37th anniversary on July 8th. At the award presentation, Dick Spero mentioned his pride for his employees and company. “We have really enjoyed working with our people. We have some of the best employees of any organization,” said Spero. “We started this many years ago and we have standards. Those standards have been performed over the years”. James Thomson of NFP Sports had the following to say about the partnership between NFP Sports and R & K Spero Company, “R & K Spero Company has been part of our program from the beginning. They have been willing partners in this great program that we have developed over the years. They are a great example of a successful company, contributing to youth and high school sports. Through the power of the McDonald's brand, our teams have benefited from their loyalty and support. We are proud to present them with this award. It is well deserved." R & K Spero Company is excited for some of the changes McDonald’s is initiating to enhance their customers’ experiences. Relaunching their mobile app will be the first of multiple changes. This application will allow customers to create an order 24 hours prior to their desired pickup time. In addition, the app will allow customers to pay using their devices and pick up their order either inside the restaurant or in the drive thru. The McDonald’s establishments will also add digital menu boards to their drive thru’s at their restaurants. Congratulations to R & K Spero Company for being the High Impact Discount Partner for 2016-2017. We look forward to working together to support high school and youth sports in Connecticut for years to come! Old Saybrook Boys' Soccer is the NFP High Impact Team of the Year for boys' soccer for the 2016-17 school year.
The Old Saybrook Rams boys’ soccer program had a tremendous season in 2016 and it started with their fundraiser. The team raised over $6,000, selling the NFP Sports “Rams” Premium Discount Card, which was the most out of any boys’ soccer team in the state during the 2016-17 school year. The Old Saybrook Boys’ Soccer team has fundraised using NFP Sports products for 17 years. Coached by Old Saybrook High School Alum, Sam Barnes, the team sees a correlation between their fundraising efforts and their efforts on the field. “Everything we do extra in the program is paid for by the benefits of the Rams Card,” said Barnes. “We always set goals and push them to be the best they can be”. Throughout these years, the team has created a connection between the players, the local businesses and the community overall. Barnes is a member of the Old Saybrook police department and has deep connections in the community. “Most of [the businesses] are interactive and like seeing the kids come in. Everyone who comes in loves the discount”, said Barnes. Sam Barnes is going into his 22nd season as the head boys’ soccer coach at Old Saybrook High School, with a career record of 213-134-43. 2017 was the best season in the program’s history, going 16-0-2 in the regular season, winning their first ever Shoreline Conference Championship and making it to the Class S State Championship Game. “It’s not a surprise that this team was #1 for boys’ soccer. Coach Barnes has a high standard for his teams and understands that whether it’s fundraising, off season conditioning, in the classroom or on the field, that commitment is universal,” said said NFP Sports’ James Thomson. After working with Coach Barnes for 17 years, Thomson mentioned that, “NFP consistently see our best performing teams translate that success over to the field or court. It was a real treat to have a small share in the special season that they had. It truly makes what we do that much sweeter. We appreciate the support from all of the participating businesses and members of the Old Saybrook community that supported the team by purchasing a Rams card.” The Old Saybrook Rams will start their fundraising campaign for this season at the end of August. We look forward to kicking off another great season with them! |
